Gadgets in the Middle East

Is there any explanation why most gadgets like mobile phones, laptops and xbox 360 could be availed at a cheaper price if you buy them in the Middle East? This is just an observation because I know a lot of people who prefer to buy these in the ME than in the States. A friend of mine told me that it’s because of the taxes but I am not so sure if this is true or if there are facts that support this statement. So for anyone who would travel to the Middle East and tried buying gadgets in the place, please buzz me!
